About wood cut

Wood cut is the oldest  printing  technique.  Originally,  it was used  in the Far East for textile  printing. In Europe, this technique is used since  1400,  initially  for pictures and book illustration.

The printing plate in this method is made of wood block as the below description:

After drawing on the wood block, cutting away the "white areas" and white lines with some kind of  gouges.

Covering the inked plate with a paper and putting them in the  printing press.

Inking the plate with a roller.

Pressing and get the result.

*  Similar method is used for Lino - cut,  but  instead of using  wood block as a  plate, linoleum sheet      is used.

* For colored print, every color need a separate plate.
